He made Team India the T20 World Champion in 2007 and after that in the World Cup 2011 also he gave the team the title but this explosive player could never become the captain of India. Now Yuvraj Singh has said goodbye to the game and after two years of retirement, he told from his heart that he wanted to captain Team India but the selectors handed over the command to Dhoni (MS Dhoni).
On the ’22 Yarns’ podcast, Yuvraj Singh said that when Rahul Dravid left the captaincy after the 2007 World Cup, he thought that he would be made the captain for the T20 World Cup but it did not happen. Yuvraj Singh said, ‘India lost the 50-over World Cup in 2007. After that there was a tour of England and then the team had to tour South Africa and Ireland. The team had to stay abroad for 4 months. That’s why the senior players thought about rest and no one took the T20 World Cup seriously. I thought that I would be made the captain in the T20 World Cup but then Dhoni’s name was announced.

Yuvraj Singh told that due to lack of captaincy, there was never any problem between him and Dhoni. Yuvraj Singh said, ‘Whoever becomes your captain, you have to support him. I believe in team game. In the first match of the T20 World Cup, Chris Gayle scored a stormy century in 50-55 balls, after that Zaheer Khan called me and said – it is good that I am not playing this tournament.
