New Delhi. The central government has unveiled a big plan regarding the road infrastructure of Maharashtra. Many big expressways and elevated road projects have been approved to make travel from Mumbai to Pune, Pune to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar and Nagpur faster and easier. These schemes will not only reduce the travel time, but will also give a new shape to the connectivity of the entire state. Announcing these projects on Saturday, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said that large-scale road construction work is going to start in Maharashtra in the next few months. Now let us understand which are those big projects, which are going to completely change the road map of Maharashtra.
Second version of Mumbai Pune Expressway: A new expressway will be built parallel to the existing expressway between Mumbai and Pune. The estimated cost of this project is said to be Rs 15000 crore. After its construction, the travel time between the two cities will reduce to just one and a half hours. Gadkari said that this will provide great relief to the daily commuters.
Mumbai-Pune-Bangalore journey will be faster: According to Nitin Gadkari, after the new road network, the journey from Mumbai Pune Bengaluru can be completed in about 5 and a half hours. This time is much less than the current situation. This will also directly benefit logistics and business movement.
Pune to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar: Maharashtra State Infrastructure Development Corporation will build a new expressway between Pune to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar. Rs 16318 crore will be spent on this project. For this the process of MOU has been completed.

Pune to Sambhajinagar in just 2 hours: After the construction of the new expressway, the journey from Pune to Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar will be completed in just 2 hours. It will take two and a half hours to reach Nagpur from Sambhajinagar. With this, the connectivity of Marathwada and Vidarbha will improve significantly.
Talegaon Chakan Shikrapur Elevated Road: The cost of Talegaon Chakan Shikrapur Elevated Road project is Rs 4207 crore. Gadkari said that the bhoomi pujan of this project will be done after the local body elections are over. This road will reduce the traffic in the industrial belt to a great extent.
Preparation of Hadapsar Yavat elevated road: DPR is being prepared for the elevated road from Hadapsar to Yavat. Work on this project will also be started after the elections. This is expected to reduce the traffic problem in the outer areas of Pune city.
Roads worth Rs 50,000 crore for Pune region: Union Minister said that road projects worth Rs 50,000 crore have been approved for Pune region. Construction work on these will start in the next 3 months. Its direct impact will be visible on the connectivity of the city and surrounding areas.
Road plan worth Rs 1.50 lakh crore across Maharashtra: According to Nitin Gadkari, a total of road projects worth Rs 1.50 lakh crore have been approved for Maharashtra. Work on these will start from 2026. Out of this, work worth Rs 50,000 crore has been given to PWD. The government believes that this will give a new impetus to the state’s economy.
