Garlic cultivation is a profitable deal for farmers. Agriculture expert Dr. Arvind Kumar said that November-December is most suitable for garlic cultivation, farmers can earn good profits with light loamy soil, organic fertilizers and right seed selection.
Garlic cultivation has always been proving to be a profitable deal for the farmers. The period from mid-November to the end of December is considered to be the most suitable season for the cultivation of garlic. The coolness of this season is necessary for the growth and formation of garlic plants. By sowing at this time, the crop becomes stronger and production also increases.
On this subject, Dr. Arvind Kumar, agricultural scientist of ISECT University, Hazaribagh told that what good profit can be earned by cultivating garlic. Light loam or sandy loam soil is best for the cultivation of garlic. It is very important for the soil to be friable and with good drainage. Farmers should plow the field well two to three times and the soil should be made friable so that the yield can be good.
He further said that adding rotten cowdung manure or vermicompost during field preparation is very beneficial. 8 to 10 tonnes of organic fertilizer should be applied per acre. This increases the fertility of the soil and makes the plants stronger. By preparing beds and sowing, the problem of water stagnation also ends.

He further said that it is considered most important for farmers to select good quality, large and healthy cloves as garlic seeds. Shrunken or small buds make the plants weak and have a direct impact on production. The buds should always be pressed at a depth of 5 to 7 cm in such a way that the tip remains on top.
He further said that by keeping the row spacing correct, the crop gets both nutrients and air equally. The distance from row to row should be 15 cm and the distance from plant to plant should be 8 to 10 cm. Due to this, the crop is spread better and the bales are also prepared better.
In terms of irrigation, garlic needs less water, but proper irrigation is very important at the time of need. The first irrigation should be done immediately after transplantation and after this light irrigation should be given according to the moisture of the soil.
Crops get damaged by weeds very quickly. Due to the growth of weeds in the field, the plants get less nutrition, due to which the size of the lump remains small. Therefore, it is necessary to do light hoeing and weeding from time to time.
