Patna. The violent incident that took place in Mokama during the Bihar Assembly elections 2025 had heated up the political atmosphere in the entire state. During the election campaign in the last week of October, there was a dispute between two groups which soon turned into fighting and firing. In the same incident, 75-year-old Dularchand Yadav was allegedly shot and later died. Main allegations were made against Anant Singh in this case, after which he was arrested and sent to Beur jail. In this case, the special MP-MLA court has rejected the bail plea of Anant Singh. After the latest order of the court, Anant Singh’s legal troubles have increased further. Despite becoming an MLA, he has not yet been able to take oath nor participate in the proceedings of the Assembly.

What was the incident of massacre?

This matter is during Bihar Assembly elections 2025. Election campaign was going on in Mokama on 29-30 October. 75 year old Dularchand Yadav was campaigning in support of Jan Suraj Party candidate Piyush Priyadarshi. Dularchand himself was an old powerful leader of Mokama area who was once associated with big leaders like Lalu Prasad Yadav and Nitish Kumar. It is said that during this time there was a clash between the convoy of Anant Singh and the supporters of the opposing party. What started with abuses escalated into fighting and firing. Dularchand Yadav was reportedly shot in the leg. Family members allege that after the shooting, Anant Singh’s supporters ran over him and killed him. According to the police, the death occurred due to the passing of a heavy object, but there is also mention of a bullet. Anant Singh was the main accused in this incident.

Arrest and election victory

A few days after the incident, on November 2, Patna Police arrested Anant Singh along with his two associates. Since then he is lodged in Beur jail of Patna. More than 80 people have been arrested in this case. Patna Police and CID are investigating. Interestingly, Anant Singh contested the elections from Mokama seat while being in jail and won. He defeated his nearest rival Veena Devi by more than 28 thousand votes and made a record of becoming MLA for the sixth time. Winning the election from jail shows the popularity and influence of Anant Singh.

But, on December 16, 2025, the court rejected the petition. The judge took the seriousness of the case as the basis and the court also canceled the anticipatory bail of Anant Singh’s nephew Rajveer Singh and Karmaveer Singh. They are still absconding. At the same time, the police has not been able to file the charge sheet yet.

What next in Anant Singh case?

For now Anant Singh will remain in jail. This is a big blow for him, because even after becoming MLA, he is not able to take oath or participate in the proceedings of the House. Anant Singh’s influence does not diminish in the politics of Mokama, but this matter is increasing his problems. Meanwhile, Anant Singh’s lawyer has said that now preparations are being made to appeal in the High Court on his behalf.
