New Delhi. Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR) are likely to witness a cold wave next week and the minimum temperature may drop to around three degrees Celsius. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) gave this information on Saturday. The Meteorological Department said that the minimum temperature in the national capital on Saturday was recorded at 10.2 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal. The maximum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 18.4 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal. While the humidity remained between 88 and 57 percent.
The Meteorological Office has forecast light fog on Sunday, with the maximum and minimum temperatures expected to be around 17 and seven degrees Celsius, respectively. IMD said that cold wave will prevail in Delhi-NCR between January 16 and January 18. The minimum temperature can remain up to three degrees Celsius on Tuesday and Wednesday in Ayanagar and Ridge areas.
An IMD official said that large parts of north and northwest India recorded below normal maximum and minimum temperatures for most of the days this month before a western disturbance brought respite from the cold.
This drop in maximum and minimum temperatures was due to a dense fog layer over the Indo-Gangetic plains for the past 10 to 11 days and a large gap between two western disturbances, which brought colder winds from the snow-capped mountains than normal. Let it run for time.
The official of the Meteorological Department said that there is a lot of moisture in the Indo-Gangetic plains due to the large number of water bodies and rivers in the region. Once the Western Disturbance retreats, cold northwesterly winds will start blowing towards the plains.
According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) data, the air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 340 (very poor) at 7 pm. An AQI between 0 and 50 is considered ‘good’, 51 and 100 ‘satisfactory’, 101 and 200 ‘moderate’, 201 and 300 ‘poor’, 301 and 400 ‘very poor’ and 401 and 500 ‘very poor’. Considered ‘serious’.
