A sudden sharp change was seen in the large black hole of the NGC 3783 galaxy. First a bright Scientists say that such strong wind has been seen so clearly for the first time.
Scientists have witnessed an incident that has shocked even them. A huge black hole present in a galaxy named NGC 3783 was suddenly seen releasing wind so fast that its speed was about one fifth of the speed of light. This speed is said to be around 60,000 kilometers per second. This is many times faster than any normal astronomical event.
How did we know that the black hole released air?
Astronomers were keeping an eye on this black hole with the help of two large X-ray telescopes – XMM-Newton and XRISM. They saw that a bright X-ray glow suddenly emerged from the first black hole. This glow diminished within some time.
As soon as the brightness decreased, air seemed to come out of the black hole. This wind was not an ordinary wind, but a very fast and hot flow of gas. Scientists say that they have never seen a black hole release such a strong wind as soon as the glow ends.
why do black holes do this
There is a rotating circle of gas around the black hole. When there is movement in it or there is a disturbance in the magnetic forces, the gas can suddenly be thrown out. Scientists describe it as the solar wind coming out of our Sun, the only difference is that the strength of the black hole is millions of times greater.
This incident makes it clear that black holes are not just ‘moats’ that swallow things. Sometimes they release such powerful energy that the area around them changes.
What does this discovery mean?
According to scientists, such strong winds can blow the gas of the galaxy far away. If the gas reduces, the process of formation of new stars may also stop.
This suggests that black holes can influence the evolution of their galaxy — sometimes slowing it down, sometimes changing its direction.
What will be explored next
Scientists now want to see whether this phenomenon has happened only in this black hole or other black holes also release such strong winds. If this happens in many places, we will have to understand in a completely new way how galaxies form and change.
