PAN-Aadhaar Link: If you are also among those people who have not linked their PAN card with Aadhaar, then this news is for you. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has clearly said that it is now mandatory to link PAN (Permanent Account Number) card with Aadhar card.
The deadline for this is December 31, 2025. That means by this date you have to link your PAN card with Aadhar card. If PAN card is not linked to Aadhar card by 31st December, then your PAN card will be deactivated or closed from 1st January 2026. Due to this, you may face many problems in future.
Who will have to link PAN with Aadhaar?
In a notification issued by the Finance Ministry on April 3, 2025, it was said that any person who has been issued a PAN card on the basis of Aadhaar Enrollment ID (filed before October 1, 2024), it is necessary for them to link Aadhaar card with PAN card. If your PAN card is generated using Aadhaar Enrollment ID, you will still need to complete the linking process after your Aadhaar number is issued.
What problems will arise?
If you do not link your PAN card with Aadhaar by 31st December 2025, then your PAN card will become inactive from the next day. It has many disadvantages. You will not be able to open a bank account or demat account. Will not be able to make fixed deposits. You will not be able to deposit more than Rs 50,000 cash in the bank. You will not be able to invest money in the stock market, will not be able to start SIP, will not be able to avail the benefits of any government scheme, and most importantly, will not be able to file ITR. There will be problems even while buying and selling a house or vehicle.
How to link PAN with Aadhaar?
First of all you have to visit the official website of Income Tax Department. https://www.incometax.gov.in/iec/foportal will go on. After this, you will have to click on the tab ‘Link Aadhaar’ on the left side. Then you will have to write your Aadhaar number and press the ‘Validate’ button. After this an OTP will be sent to your registered mobile number. As soon as the OTP is entered, the process of linking Aadhaar with PAN will be completed.
