New Delhi. Toyota showcased a special car during the Auto Expo. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari was also seen sitting in this car some time ago. This car neither runs on diesel nor petrol nor on battery. This car is the hydrogen-powered Toyota Mirai. In October 2022, a pilot project was started between Toyota and the central government regarding hydrogen vehicles. Meanwhile, Union Minister Gadkari had taken a ride in this car. Earlier in 2020, Toyota launched Mirai globally.
However, now Toyota has launched the second generation of this car at the Auto Expo. In October itself, Toyota started a project to test the car in Indian conditions. In this the company has also got success to a great extent. The car that has been introduced now is a hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle. To understand it in simple language, it is a kind of hybrid car whose primary fuel is hydrogen.
What is special in Mirai
- This is a rear wheel drive car.
- 3 hydrogen tanks have been installed in it, which when full will increase its total range to 640 km. Let’s do it.
- Fuel cell stack technology has been used which gives it a power of 174 bhp.
- Mirai acts like a purifier, it cleans the air while driving, a catalyst type filter has been installed in the car.
- Polluted micro particles are captured with the help of an electric charge on a non-woven fabric filter as soon as the air intake is done for the fuel cell.
- Sulfur dioxide, nitrous oxide and PM 2.5 particles get filtered in this.
- The features of the car are also very good, it has a 12.3 inch touchscreen infotainment system.
- It gets three zone climate control AC, heated and ventilated steering wheel and seats.
- Heads up display and ADAS will also be available.

Running cost will be very less
Mirai will be much cheaper to run than a petrol diesel car. The running cost of this car is expected to be similar to that of an e-car. Also, its maintenance will also be less. But for now the biggest problem will be to develop the infrastructure for this car. If Toyota launches it, then it will have to arrange for service stations as well as filling stations.
