Is Egg Safe To Eat: After claims on social media that nitrofuran was found in eggs, FSSAI ordered samples of eggs from across the country. In the investigation, the egg has been declared completely safe to eat. Due to which the talk of cancer has also been proved baseless.
Do Eggs Increase Risk of Cancer: Eggs sold in the country are completely safe and there is no risk of cancer from their consumption. Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), while completely rejecting the rumors spread about eggs and the claims going on on social media, has made it clear that such news are not based on scientific facts and are spreading unnecessary fear among the common people.
According to FSSAI, in recent times it has been claimed in some media reports and social media posts that a banned chemical named Nitrofuran has been found in eggs, which is being linked to cancer. On this, FSSAI clarified that the use of nitrofuran and its related chemicals is completely banned in poultry farming and egg production. Under the Food Safety Act, its use is not allowed at any level.
Use within prescribed limits is not fatal
The authority also said that the very small quantity limit fixed during the investigation is only for the purpose of lab testing and monitoring. This does not at all mean that that chemical can be used or that the quantity is hazardous to health. According to FSSAI, such minute quantities have no negative impact on human health.
Eating eggs does not cause cancer!
On the health related aspect, FSSAI bluntly said that till now no scientific study has come to light in the country or the world, which proves that eating eggs causes cancer. Neither any national nor any international health organization has linked normal egg consumption to an increased risk of cancer.
It is completely safe to eat eggs without adulteration
Regarding reports received during inspection of a particular brand or batch, FSSAI said that such incidents can sometimes occur due to feed, environment or other technical reasons. But this does not mean that the supply of eggs in the entire country is unsafe. Questioning the entire egg industry on the basis of one or two cases and calling eggs dangerous is both scientifically and logically wrong.
appeal to the public
FSSAI has appealed to the general public not to believe in unconfirmed news and rumors spreading on social media. Only official statements, scientific reports and advisories issued by the government should be considered correct. The authority reiterated that eggs are rich in protein and nutrients and play an important role in a balanced diet.
