New Delhi. There is strong demand for CNG cars in India. This is why brands like Maruti, Tata and Hyundai have many CNG cars in their portfolio. But, there is one brand which is very popular in India and there is no CNG model in its portfolio. That brand is Mahindra. Not a single model in the company’s product portfolio is CNG powered. But why is it so? Sticking to its strategy, Mahindra & Mahindra is planning to introduce premium and differentiated models, which include internal combustion engine (ICE) powered SUVs and electric vehicles. The aim of the company is to further strengthen its hold in the domestic passenger vehicle segment.
Mahindra currently has no intention of introducing CNG or other alternative fuel technologies in its product range. The company wants to stick to its core brand identity and target customers who are looking for different and unique products. Speaking to PTI, R Velusamy, President – Automotive Business, Mahindra & Mahindra, said, “Our focus has been on ICE and electric and we are growing well in these areas. In our personal vehicle portfolio, customers want differentiated products, they do not want to go to the mass market.”
Many new models will be launched in 4 years
He told that the company is completely focused on the SUV segment and plans to launch many new models in the next four years. However, the company currently has no intention of entering the Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) segment.
