The story of Rolex begins in 1905 when Hans Willsdorf and Alfred Davis together started a company named Wilsdorf & Davis in London, where they used to make wrist watches and sell them to jewelers. After this, jewelers used to put their names on the dials of those watches and sell them to customers.

At that time wrist watches were not used to check time because their accuracy was not that good. As was the case with the pocket watch, but the problem with the pocket watch was that it would get damaged due to water or if you went to a higher altitude, here too this watch would stop working, but despite these shortcomings, it was used a lot because till that time there was no other option to see the time.

But then Hans Wels Dorf saw that a wrist watch is much better than a pocket watch for keeping time, so why not make its time so perfect. After gathering a lot of knowledge about these watches, Alfred and Wilsdorf experimented a lot and made the world’s most accurate time-telling wrist watch.

Although even after making these wrist watches, they used to earn money by selling them to jewelers but they saw that gradually the demand for their watches is increasing in the market and people are liking their watches very much, then why not enter the market with their own brand name and then with this thinking, they started making wrist watches with their own brand name, although at that time the name of the company was Wills Durf & Davis, which if written on the dial, it would have become very big. That’s why he shortened his brand name and changed the name of the company to Rolex in 1908.

Now Rolex gradually started gaining hold in the market with its revolution products and new innovations were made to make it even better. In 1908 itself, he opened the office of his company in Geneva, Switzerland.

Then he started managing his operations from there, but in 1919 he had to close his London company because the government had increased the taxes so much that the profit margin there was almost negligible. However, the company being located in Switzerland also proved to be very helpful in increasing their brand value because at that time Swiss made watches were known for telling the most accurate time and were in great demand all over the world.
