Apple has warned iPhone users to stop using Google Chrome. The company says, ‘Safari, not Chrome, takes care of your privacy.’ This warning now also includes information about secretive fingerprinting. Also, Chrome is not the only Google app which has been advised to be stopped.
According to Apple, Safari works in such a way that advertisements and websites cannot identify your device and create your ‘fingerprint’. Safari shows simplified versions of system settings, so that all devices appear the same to trackers and your device is indistinguishable.
According to a report published in Forbes, fingerprinting has increased again this year because Google removed the rule that stopped it. This means that it can now collect data secretly and cannot be turned off.
Fingerprinting creates a trackable identity by gathering a lot of information from your phone. Apple is not alone, Mozilla has also added similar protection to Firefox.
More privacy features of Safari
Safari features:
- Preventing tracking through AI
- truly private browsing
- Protection from location data theft
Google Chrome is not that secure in all these cases. Apple also says that Safari works easily with Google Docs, Sheets and Slides.
Google App threat
Be careful even when using Safari. When you search in Safari, Google is often the default search engine. Google now shows the link to its app at the bottom of every page, making it easy to click by mistake.
Apple warns that data collected from Google Apps can be even more dangerous than Chrome. If you want private browsing, don’t leave Safari and click the ‘Try app’ button.
Chrome is still the most used browser. If you use it knowingly, it is your choice. But before using Google App, be careful about the way it collects data.
