Rishikesh: Winter season also increases the risk for heart patients. Every year, as the cold increases, a sudden increase in heart attack cases is seen. Low temperature affects the internal functions of the body, causing additional pressure on the heart. For this reason, a little carelessness in lifestyle and eating habits in winter can lead to serious heart-related problems. In such a situation, it is important to know why the risk of heart attack increases in winter and how it can be prevented from the point of view of Ayurveda.
During a conversation with Local 18, Ayush doctor Rajkumar said that as the temperature falls in winter, the blood vessels i.e. arteries of the body start shrinking. Due to this, blood flow slows down and blood pressure starts increasing. When blood pressure increases, the heart has to work harder to pump blood. This extra pressure sometimes becomes the cause of heart attack. In cold weather, the body sweats less, which can lead to dehydration. Drinking less water thickens the blood and increases the risk of clots, which is considered a major cause of heart attack.
Why does the risk of heart attack increase in winter?
According to Ayurveda, Vata dosha increases in winter. Increase in Vata dosha causes dryness, coldness and imbalance in blood circulation in the body. When Vata dosha affects the heart and blood vessels, the risk of heart-related diseases increases. Apart from this, in winter people start eating more oily, heavy and high salt food, which can increase both cholesterol and blood pressure. Stress, lack of sleep and sudden heavy exercise in the harsh morning cold also increases the risk of heart attack manifold.
protect yourself like this
From Ayurvedic point of view, balance in daily routine and diet is very important to keep the heart safe in winter. First of all, one should develop the habit of drinking lukewarm water throughout the day. This keeps the body hydrated and blood flow remains better. Food should be light, warm and friendly to digestion. Consumption of sesame, jaggery and pure ghee in limited quantities is considered nourishing for the heart in Ayurveda. These elements provide energy to the body and help in balancing Vata dosha. It is equally important to protect the body from cold. The chest, neck and head should be covered, so that the cold air does not directly affect the heart area.
One should avoid fast running or heavy workout in very cold morning. Instead, it is better to include light walking, stretching and yoga in your daily routine. Pranayam like Anulom-Vilom and Bhramari not only reduce stress but also strengthen the heart by improving oxygen supply. These exercises keep the blood flow balanced and reduce the pressure on the heart.
