Actually, there are many scientific reasons behind this and if proper skincare is done after understanding them, then the skin can be kept healthy, glowing and soft even in winter. Why does skin become more dry in winter?
The air becomes very cold and dry in winter. This dryness of the air sucks moisture from the skin, due to which the natural oils present in the topmost layer of the skin get reduced. These oils work to protect the skin but as soon as they decrease, the skin starts becoming dry, rough and patchy. In cold, our skin sweats less due to which the hydration of the skin also reduces. This is the reason why you sometimes feel that your face is stretching after washing. Apart from this, blood circulation also slows down a bit in cold air due to which the skin gets less nutrition and moisture and it starts losing its natural glow.

Hot shower also increases dryness level of skin
Everyone likes to take bath with hot water in winter, but according to experts, hot shower reduces the natural oils of the skin rapidly. The hotter the water, the drier the skin will be. For this reason, many people feel tight and rough after bathing in winter. Hot water weakens the protective layer of the skin due to which moisture cannot remain in the skin. This is the reason why excessively hot water makes the skin more dry.

Drinking less water is also a major reason for dryness
People feel less thirsty in cold, hence people drink less water. But due to less water in the body, the hydration level of the skin also falls. The skin starts becoming dry from within and even external moisturizer is not effective for long. Therefore, it is important to pay more attention to hydration in winter.

Now let’s talk about how to control this dryness and keep the skin glowing.

1. Use thick and creamy moisturizer
To give extra care to the skin in winter, creamy moisturizer should be used instead of light lotion. It forms a protective layer on the skin and locks the moisture. Its effect is further enhanced by applying moisturizer immediately after bathing.

2. Face wash should not be too harsh
Too strong and foaming face wash makes the skin more dry in winter. Therefore use gentle and hydrating face wash.

3. Limit hot water
Taking bath and face wash with lukewarm water is better for the skin. Too hot water damages the skin.

4. Protect skin from wind
Cold air sucks moisture from the skin, so whenever you go out, cover your face with a scarf or shawl.

5. Maintain moisture in the indoor air also
The air in the room becomes drier when the heater runs. Therefore, use a humidifier or keep a vessel of water in the room.

6. Include healthy fats and vitamins in your diet
Foods containing Omega 3, Vitamin E and Vitamin C like almonds, walnuts, seeds, oranges and seasonal fruits make the skin healthy and glowing from inside.

How to maintain glow in winter
If you want to keep your skin fresh and glowing even in winter, then definitely keep these three things in your routine. Moisturizer, sunscreen and hydration. Use of sunscreen is important in winter also because UV rays can damage the skin even in cold. Apply moisturizer twice a day and drink adequate amount of water. Using hydrating serum on the skin at night helps a lot in enhancing the glow.
