Scary Dreams Causes: Many people start having scary dreams at night and due to this their sleep gets disrupted. After opening the eyes, everything appears normal, but the heartbeat appears increased. It is normal to have scary or bad dreams occasionally, but some people often have this problem. Due to this, they are unable to get complete sleep at night and they become afraid of sleeping also. Scary dreams come in the second half of the night i.e. a few hours before dawn. These dreams seem very real and are often associated with danger, stalking, injury, or other scary situations. When sleep is disrupted due to such dreams, the heartbeat may increase, sweating may occur and the person immediately feels scared or uneasy. The special thing is that even after waking up, the dream is remembered clearly and due to this one cannot sleep again. Having scary dreams is not a disease, but when it happens repeatedly, reduces the ability to work throughout the day, its memories remain in the mind or the person becomes afraid of sleeping, then it is considered a nightmare disorder. In such people, fatigue, irritability, lack of attention, poor memory and constant fear of bad dreams are often seen. When this problem occurs in children, the sleep of parents also gets affected.
There can be many reasons for having scary dreams. These include stress, anxiety, emotional trauma, poor sleep, fever, eating heavy meals late at night, side effects of medicines, horror movies or games and disturbed routine. In children, new experiences, fear, exam stress or family environment can also be a cause of nightmares. Mental health disorders like depression, anxiety and PTSD can also cause frequent nightmares. Scary dreams that occur occasionally are not a matter of concern. However, if problems occur on a daily basis, it is important to consult a doctor.
