Chandigarh. The government has become alert regarding the 2-hour pain down strike of doctors in Haryana today. Instructions have been given by the government to increase extra staff in district hospitals. Besides, instructions have been given for mandatory presence of CMO and PMO in all the district hospitals. Government doctors are on a pen-down strike today by keeping OPD services closed from 9 am to 11 am in support of their demands.
Additional Chief Secretary (ACS), Health Department, Sudhir Rajpal has instructed all civil surgeons and PMOs to maintain OPD services smoothly and all emergency services will remain operational across the state. The Additional Chief Secretary directed the Civil Surgeon and the PMO to ensure adequate arrangements so that no patient faces inconvenience. Due to the pen down strike, comprehensive guidelines have also been issued at the state level and following them the districts have taken necessary steps.
The Health Department has given clear instructions to keep OPD and all emergency services running. The ACS of the Health Department told the Civil Surgeons and PMO that the patients should not face any problem. The services of all consultants and medical officers working on contract will be taken. Apart from this, around 400 doctors of RBSK have also been put on duty in OPD services. On the other hand, the President of Civil Medical Services Association in Haryana, Riyana, at Sector 6 Hospital in Panchkula, said that if the demands are not met soon, a big agitation will also be carried out.
Why is there a doctors’ strike in Haryana?
Actually, under the banner of Haryana Civil Medical Services Association (HCMS), doctors are on pen down strike from 9 am to 11 am. Emergency services including operation and delivery are continuing. It is being told that now the government will do direct recruitment of Senior Medical Officers (SMO) in Haryana and this very thing is being opposed. There has been no direct recruitment to the post of SMO in Haryana after 2012. If this recruitment happens then doctors will not get the opportunity for promotion.
