New Delhi. Now people in India will not have to wait for electricity to come on. Soon you will get information on your phone about when the lights will go off, why they will go off and which appliance in your house is consuming the most electricity. The central government has described the entry of AI and ML in the power sector as the beginning of big changes. Energy Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that this technology is going to make the entire distribution network smart and consumer centric.
In the two-day national conference organized in Delhi, the minister clearly said that in the coming time, the entire electricity system is going to be automated and predictive. That is, the machines themselves will start telling where the fault is going to occur and how easy it will be to fix it.
Biggest attack on electricity theft and leakage
The minister said that AI based system can become the most effective weapon to stop electricity theft. Any connection where the consumption and load pattern appears incorrect, the system will immediately send an alert. This will reduce the revenue loss of discoms rapidly and there will be no additional burden on honest consumers.
Alert before fault, relief from power cut
Currently, most power cuts occur because the transformer gets overloaded and gets damaged or there is a problem in the lines. With the help of AI, predictive maintenance will create such an environment in which the machines themselves will tell when they are being overloaded and which part is going to face problems. Before this the repairs will be done and the lights will not go off again and again.
Smart meter analytics will unlock home power consumption
Smart meter analytics is the most interesting part of this whole story. The minister said that now consumers will be able to see on their mobile app how much electricity is being consumed by each of their appliances. AC, fridge, geyser, microwave, washing machine, consumption of all will be seen differently. With this, people will be able to easily understand where the electricity bill is increasing and how it can be controlled.
STELLAR SYSTEM LAUNCH
The Stellar System prepared by the Central Electricity Authority was also launched in this program. This system will help states and discoms to estimate how much power they will need in the next several years. This planning is necessary so that the country does not suffer from electricity shortage anywhere.
Break on misconceptions regarding technology
The minister also advised the discoms to remove misconceptions regarding technologies like smart meters and AI. Many times consumers get scared about these technologies due to wrong information. The minister said that the discoms should take the public into confidence and give correct information so that the change can happen quickly and smoothly.
This wave of new technologies will not only make India’s power sector more reliable but is also going to completely change the consumer experience. Now the electricity in the house will not be limited to just the meter, but the story of every appliance will be clearly visible on your phone.
