Shillong. Voters living in villages adjacent to the disputed border with Assam can vote in the upcoming assembly elections in Meghalaya. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar said this on Friday. The Election Commission team headed by Kumar reviewed the election preparations in Meghalaya for two days. This tour ended today.
CEC Kumar said, “Despite whatever has happened, people living in villages adjacent to the disputed border can participate in the elections.” Both the sides have held joint meetings and discussions are going on at senior level as well. We are aware of the situation and there is nothing to worry.” He said, “There is nothing to worry about. We have reviewed the situation at our level and district officials from both sides have held detailed meetings.

The CEC said that for strict monitoring of election expenditure, the commission has directed 16 central agencies to work in a coordinated manner. He said that no political party or candidate could entice voters with the help of cash, for this, instructions have been given to various agencies for proper checking of helicopters and planes coming to the state. Elections are proposed for the 60-member assembly of Meghalaya this year.
