China Spying Bird: Countries keep adopting different methods to spy on each other. All kinds of tactics are adopted so that as much information as possible can be gathered about enemy countries. A bird has been caught in Karnataka, on which a China made GPS has been found.
China Spying Bird: There was a stir in Karwar city of Karnataka when a case of Chinese GPS tracking device being found on the body of a migratory sea bird came to light. This bird was seen behind Thimmakka Garden in Karwar. The special thing is that Karwar is very strategically important for India, because major naval bases are present here. For this reason, taking the matter seriously, the Forest Department, local police and Navy have started a joint investigation. Local people first saw a small electronic device tied on the seagull’s back. He suspected that this was not a normal thing. After this he informed the forest department. Forest department officials reached the spot, caught the bird safely and started investigation. Karwar is very important strategically. INS Vikrant is anchored here. Apart from being the base of the Indian Navy, the Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant is also located here.
When the GPS device was examined carefully, it was found written in English – Center for Eco-Environment Science, Chinese Academy of Sciences. That is, this equipment is said to be connected to a scientific institution in China. After this, this matter moved beyond scientific research and took a security related form. According to preliminary information, this GPS tracker may have been installed by Chinese scientists to keep an eye on the bird’s migration route, food habits and its activities. Research by installing such trackers on migratory birds is a common scientific process around the world. This helps in understanding which routes birds fly and what is their natural behavior.
Why is Karwar important?
- Indian Navy base
- Home of INS Vikrant
- military base
- Kaiga Nuclear Power Plant
Then why doubt?
However, finding such equipment in a sensitive coastal area like Karwar has become a matter of concern for the security agencies. Officials say that they do not want to take any kind of risk. Therefore, it is being investigated whether this device was used only for scientific purposes or there could be some other purpose behind it. At present the seagull has been kept in the Marine Forest Division office, where veterinarians are taking care of his health. It is being ensured that he does not face any kind of injury or problem. Meanwhile, Karwar City Police and Naval Police have started formal investigation.
Contact will be made with China
Forest department officials are in the process of contacting the Chinese Academy of Sciences to find out whether this tracking project is official and valid. Besides, it is also being investigated whether this bird had reached Karwar on its normal migratory route or whether it is an unusual incident. There have been no concrete signs of a security threat so far, but officials remain vigilant until the investigation is completed. On the one hand, this matter points towards international scientific research, and on the other hand, it also raises questions about national security. In the coming days, it will become clear only from the results of the investigation whether this was just a scientific experiment or there is some other aspect related to it.
