Delhi- Dehradun Expressway: New information has come to light for the people who have been waiting for the Delhi-Dehradun Expressway for a long time. The central government has shared the latest timeline for its construction and inauguration. As soon as the expressway opens, the journey from Delhi to Dehradun will be completed in a short time instead of hours.
New Delhi. There is big news for the people waiting for Delhi-Dehradun Expressway. The Central Government has given a new update regarding this long pending project. After the opening of this expressway, it will not only reduce the traffic pressure in Delhi-NCR, but will also make the journey to Uttarakhand faster and easier. This project being built by the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) is now said to be in the final stages.
From where to where will the expressway go?
Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will start from Akshardham Temple in Delhi. This expressway will reach Uttarakhand’s capital Dehradun via Baghpat, Baraut, Muzaffarnagar, Shamli and Saharanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Through this route, a highway with direct and controlled access will be available between Delhi and Uttarakhand, which is expected to reduce the problem of jam in many cities in between.
What did the government say in the new update?
Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has clarified the status of this project in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha. He said that the work on this 210 km long, 6 lane access controlled greenfield expressway has been completed to a large extent. According to the revised deadline, it will be completed by January 2026. However, the work of 70 meter service road from Akshardham to Eastern Peripheral Expressway Junction is still pending due to legal dispute.
Earlier the deadline was October 2025
Earlier, the Road Transport Ministry had set a target to complete this expressway by October 2025. The same deadline was given in the Parliament in July also. But later the project got delayed due to some technical and legal hurdles. It is clear from the latest statement in December that now the government has accepted January 2026 as the new deadline.
Speed limit and connectivity benefits
The maximum speed limit of vehicles on Delhi-Dehradun Expressway will be 100 kilometers per hour. After its commissioning, the journey from Delhi to Dehradun will be completed in just 2.5 hours instead of the current 6 to 6.5 hours. A separate road to Haridwar will also be connected to this expressway and it will be connected to Chardham Highway. With this, access to hill stations and religious places of Uttarakhand will become easier. With the opening of the expressway, not only will the time of the passengers be saved, but the traffic pressure on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway and surrounding roads will also be reduced. The government claims that this project will give new impetus to regional development, tourism and trade. Now everyone’s eyes are fixed on January 2026, when this much-awaited expressway can open for the general public.
