Young farmer Amresh, resident of Mahndabad village of Barabanki district, left the cultivation of crops like paddy, wheat etc. and took up gardening of Taiwanese pink guava, in which today he is earning profit of lakhs of rupees from one crop. He has been cultivating guava for many years.
Young farmer Amresh, who cultivates Taiwanese pink guava, told Local 18 that earlier he used to cultivate crops like paddy, wheat etc. But sometimes even the cost could not be covered. Then we came to know about Taiwan Pink Guava. After that we planted Taiwanese pink guava plants in about one and a half acres. In which our cost was around Rs 50 to 60 thousand. Talking about the profit, it is around three to four lakh rupees per crop and the special thing about this guava is that one tree gives about 25 to 30 kg of fruits and this guava is much bigger than other varieties and apart from being very sweet, it also has very less seeds and it is pink from inside. Due to which its demand is high in the market and it can be harvested twice a year.
Amresh says that with the right variety, proper irrigation and timely fertilizer and water, guava cultivation is proving to be very profitable. He said that by using modern techniques and scientific advice in farming, both production and quality have improved. He believes that if young farmers adopt farming professionally then agriculture can also become a better and permanent career.
