Rishikesh: The sacred land of India has been the center of mysteries, miracles and countless spiritual stories. Here every mountain, river and ghat contains layers of history within itself. One such unique and faith-filled river is Saraswati, whose stream is clearly visible in Mana village of Uttarakhand. After some distance this river flows as an underground stream. It is believed that it flows secretly till Rishikesh, Haridwar and Prayagraj and meets Ganga and Yamuna at the confluence point.
This is India’s first village
During a conversation with Local 18, Mahant Rameshwar Giri said that the visual form of Saraswati river can be seen in Mana village. This village is situated near the India-Tibet border, just a few kilometers before Badrinath Dham and is also called the first village of India. Here the fast flow of Saraswati river is visible between the narrow mountain rocks.
The tremendous speed of water and its roaring sound fills any traveler with thrill and spiritual experience. Some distance beyond this place the river disappears within the rocks and turns into an underground flow. This is the amazing mystery that has attracted travelers, saints and researchers for centuries.
History related to Mahabharata period
Saraswati river is also related to the Mahabharata period and the Pandavas. According to the legend, after the Mahabharata war, the Pandavas set out on a journey to ascension to heaven. When they reached Mana area, the flow of the river was so strong that it was almost impossible to cross it. At the same time, Bhima picked up a huge rock and placed it on the river, which created a path to cross the river. This rock is still known as Bhima Shila and this place holds immense reverence and historical importance.
According to the stories, Mother Saraswati was angry because of fighting with the Pandavas and the fierce form of the river was considered a symbol of this anger. When Bhima made the path, Mother Saraswati felt ashamed and turned into an underground stream. This is the reason why the visible form of Saraswati is found only in Mana area, but her stream is always considered active.
