Wheat Farming Tips: Dr. Rajan Ojha, senior scientist posted at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, told Local 18 that it is very important to do the first irrigation about 20 to 25 days after sowing wheat. After the first irrigation, use of manure or fertilizer is also necessary to provide essential nutrients to the crop.
Rabi crops are cultivated on a large scale during the winter season, of which wheat is the main crop. In states like Bihar and Jharkhand, farmers cultivate wheat in large numbers. At present, the effect of fog and cold wave has increased in the weather, at such a time it becomes very important to take proper care of Rabi crops. If there is even a little carelessness at this time, both the growth and production of the crop can be affected.
These days, yellowness has started appearing in the wheat crop in the fields of many farmers. In common language it is called yellowness disease. Regarding this problem, Dr. Rajan Ojha, senior agricultural scientist of Deoghar Krishi Vigyan Kendra, says that there can be many reasons behind yellowing of wheat. It is important that farmers understand its reasons in time and take correct measures.
What does a scientist say Rajan Ojha
Dr. Rajan Ojha, a senior scientist posted at the Agricultural Science Center in Deoghar, told Local 18 that it is very important to do the first irrigation about 20 to 25 days after sowing of wheat. After the first irrigation, it is also necessary to use manure or fertilizer to provide essential nutrients to the crop. Many times farmers irrigate on time, but are not able to supply the nutrients. Due to this, plants do not get complete nutrition and the leaves start turning yellow.
There may be a deficiency of phosphorus
He told that if yellowness is visible on the upper leaves of the wheat crop, it could be a sign of phosphorus deficiency. Generally, farmers pay attention only to urea, DAP and potash, whereas phosphorus is equally important for good growth of wheat. Due to deficiency of phosphorus, plants become weak and their growth stops.
Too much water can also be harmful
Dr. Rajan Ojha also explains that while doing the first irrigation, one should not put more water than necessary in the field. Excessive watering causes damage to the roots and the plants are not able to take nutrients properly, which can lead to yellowing. Therefore, by balanced irrigation, use of fertilizer at the right time and identifying the deficiency of nutrients and solving it, the wheat crop can be saved from the disease of yellowing.
