As Chief Minister, he gets a salary of around Rs 250,000, while depending on his previous tenures, he gets two separate pensions: around Rs 68,500 as MP and around Rs 138,000 as MLA. Including both, his total pension comes to around Rs 203000, which is still less than his CM salary.
New Delhi. Nitish Kumar is going to become CM once again in Bihar. He has been elected the leader of the legislature party after the bumper victory of NDA in Bihar. It is possible that on Thursday he will take oath as the Chief Minister of Bihar for the 10th time. Nitish Kumar will not only get the salary of the Chief Minister but he will also get the pension of being an MP. Apart from this, when he steps down from the post of Chief Minister, he will also get pension for his tenure as MLA.
In this way, Nitish Kumar will get the benefit of not one but two pensions after retirement. Along with this, they will also get the benefit of dearness allowance increasing every 6 months. But it is not that if Nitish Kumar becomes MLA 10 times, he will get 10 times the pension. Let us understand in detail how much money Nitish Kumar will get as pension after retirement.
MP’s pension
Nitish Kumar was an MP from 1989 till he lost the elections in 2004. If a person remains an MP even for one day, he gets a pension of Rs 31,000. The number of years he will remain an MP after completing his 5-year tenure. For those years, Rs 2500 per month will be added to his pension every year. In this context, Nitish Kumar would be getting a pension of Rs 31000+37500=68500 as an MP. DA is also a factor in this which is decided by the government every 6 months. Therefore his pension may be a little more than Rs 68500.
Salary as Chief Minister
Nitish Kumar will get Rs 2.5 lakh. However, their salary also includes accommodation, office, security and facilities related to MLAs. Similarly, every minister also gets a monthly salary of Rs 65,000 and regional allowance of Rs 70,000.
MLA’s pension
Now let’s talk about Nitish Kumar’s pension as MLA. Nitish Kumar has reached the Assembly mostly as a Legislative Council member. They are called Legislative Councilors. However, the pension of both is equal. In Bihar, MLA gets a pension of Rs 45000. In 1985 he became MLA for the first time. Therefore, his pension of Rs 45,000 for the first term is fixed. After that, he came to Delhi in 1989 and then again from 2004, he started his second innings in Bihar as a Legislative Councilor. The calculation of pension of MLA is somewhat similar to that of MP. Nitish Kumar will not get pension of Rs 45000 again. Rather, their pension will increase by Rs 4-4 thousand every year. He has been an MLA for 21 years from 2005 to 2025. So his pension for this period became Rs 840000. If we add the first pension of Rs 45,000 to this, his pension for the tenure till now would be Rs 1,38,000. The total amount including the pension of MP and MLA till now was Rs 2,03,000. This is still less than his salary.
