The new National Education Policy has been implemented in the country, in which the limit of school bags has been fixed for all classes. School bags weight in National Education Policy: Even though the new National Education Policy has been implemented, its instructions and rules are still not being followed. Even now small children can be seen going to school carrying the weight of heavy bags on their backs. The books crammed in these bags not only tire the back and neck of the children but many children reach home and school panting under the burden. However, understanding this problem of children, MP Rambir Bidhuri and Rajya Sabha MP Dr. Bhim Singh have raised the issue of heavy bags in the Parliament.
Expressing concern over the increasing weight of school bags, he has demanded to reduce the weight of school bags. In response to this issue raised by both the MPs, the Education Ministry made it clear that under the National Education Policy, there are clear instructions to limit the weight of school bags. The Education Minister told the Parliament session that the weight of the school bag should not exceed ten percent of the child’s body weight and it is also mandatory for schools to include Bagless Day in their annual calendar.
The Education Minister said that under the new education policy, it has also been made clear that school bags should not be given to children in pre-primary classes, whereas for other classes the maximum limit of weight of the bag is as follows..
What should be the weight of the bag in which class?
in first and second grade
Up to 1.6 – 2.2 kg
from third to fifth
Up to 1.7 – 2.5 kg
in sixth and seventh
Up to 2 – 3 kg
in eighth grade
Up to 2.5 – 4 kg
in ninth and tenth grade
