Darbhanga: Aghaan month of the Indian calendar is considered very special and auspicious in itself. Worshiping Hariharnath Mahadev located in Sonpur in this month is very beneficial and auspicious. The tradition of bathing Harihar on a special date in this month has special significance, which this year will fall on 4th December 2025, on the full moon day of Shukla Paksha of Agahan month. This day is considered very good for bathing in Harihar area, because this area itself is a famous pilgrimage site, which is linked to the story of Gajendra Moksha. According to mythological belief, when the crocodile took the foot of an elephant (Gaj) in its mouth, then Gaj called out to God while reciting Gajendra Moksha. Hearing his call, both Hari (Lord Vishnu) and Har (Mahadev) appeared and freed the elephant from the crocodile. Since then the tradition of Harihar Snan is especially celebrated here.

Worship of Vishnu and Mahadev together
The most special thing about this place is that in this temple located in Sonpur of Chapra district, the idols of both Hari (Lord Vishnu) and Har (Sakshat Mahadev) are present in the same temple. Here Jalabhishek of both the gods is done together. Due to which the devotees attain auspiciousness. This occasion of Harihar Snan is a time when one gets the privilege of worshiping both Lord Vishnu and Mahadev together. This is a day when devotees can make their life pure by getting freedom from all the sins of their life.
