There were allegations against her that she had gone to Japan’s ‘Love Hotel’ 10 times with a married officer. Ogawa had been denying the allegations against her for a long time, but people’s anger over the ‘hotel scandal’ grew so much that she had to step down. He resigned on 25 November and his resignation was accepted on 27 November. However, she has indicated that she may stand again in the upcoming elections.
This whole controversy started when Ogawa herself admitted that she had gone to the hotel more than 10 times since February with a married senior official. But he claimed that there was no illicit relationship between them. According to the mayor, he used to go to the hotel only to discuss his personal and office problems. The people of the city were not at all happy with this argument of the Mayor and complaints started piling up against him. After this matter came to light, there was a lot of pressure on Ogawa politically. Seven different groups asked for his resignation. He said that the city’s reputation has been tarnished by these actions of the mayor. Due to this dispute, the functioning of the city was badly affected. When the city council prepared to bring a motion of no confidence (motion for removal) against him, Ogawa felt it was best to resign.

Ogawa wrote on social media that he was very sorry about this. She said she tried to clear up the misunderstandings, but failed to get her point across. He has promised to work with all his might to restore public confidence in the future. During this entire controversy, the administration received more than 10,000 phone calls from the public, which shows how angry people were over this matter. People said that the behavior of a leader should be clean.
