ITR intimation- The intimation comes in the form of a password protected PDF file. The password is created by combining the PAN number and date of birth of the income tax payer. If there is a mismatch between the calculations given in the ITR and the intimation, a reply has to be filed.
New Delhi. After filing the income tax return, the Income Tax Department investigates it. After this process is completed, intimation is sent to the taxpayer under section 143(1). This document confirms that your ITR has been checked and processed by the department. In this, the acknowledgment number of ITR is given and also all the information related to the income of the income tax payer is shown in two parts. One, which is filed by the taxpayer in the return and the other, which is as per the calculations of the department. If there is no difference between these two then there is no need to respond to the intimation. At the same time, if there is a difference in the calculation, then the taxpayer is required to answer for it. In some cases, additional tax may have to be paid, while in some cases the refund may also increase or decrease.
In simple words, this intimation is actually the health card of your return. This tells you whether your filing is correct, whether you will get a refund or whether you will have to pay any additional tax. Intimation comes on your registered email ID. Along with this, SMS alert is also available on the registered mobile. Usually this ITR comes within a few weeks or months of filing, but according to the rules it is mandatory to send it to the income tax payer within 9 months of the end of the financial year.
