There are chances of a fight in Parliament even today, on the 11th day of the winter session.
The last week of the winter session of Parliament has started from today. On Monday, the 11th day of the session will begin with Question Hour at 11 am in the Lok Sabha, while many important legislative works are listed in the Rajya Sabha also. The government is trying to get some important bills passed in the last days of the session.
The government is going to present the Atomic Energy (Amendment) Bill in the Lok Sabha today. Through this bill, private companies will get an opportunity to work in the nuclear energy sector of the country. It is believed that this will boost nuclear energy production in India and will give new impetus to technological development. Apart from this, there is also a possibility of discussion on bills related to corporate laws and Higher Education Commission of India.
However, even in the last phase of the session, the attitude of the opposition does not seem to be softening. The atmosphere is already heated over issues like Election Commission’s SIR campaign and Vande Mataram and even today there are chances of uproar in both the houses. The opposition is planning a strategy to corner the government on these issues, which may lead to debate and conflict.
Meanwhile, the worsening pollution crisis in Delhi-NCR has also increased the stir in the Parliament. The air quality index (AQI) in the capital and surrounding areas has reached 461, which falls in the very serious category and is considered extremely dangerous for human life. In such a situation, Lok Sabha MP from Kanyakumari Vijay Vasanth has presented an adjournment motion in Parliament to discuss this issue and demanded declaration of national health emergency.
Calling it a violation of the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution, Vijay Vasant demanded the government to immediately declare a national health emergency, stop unnecessary polluting activities and fix responsibility. He also appealed to allow the Leader of Opposition to speak on this issue.
