New Delhi. Indian Navy Chief Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi’s latest statement has made the complete picture of the maritime front of Operation Sindoor more clear. He revealed that during the tensions with Pakistan in May, the Indian Navy’s offensive deployment was so decisive that the Pakistani Navy was confined to its own ports and around the Makran coast. According to Admiral Tripathi, the deployment of the Indian Navy’s Carrier Battle Group (CBG) did not give Pakistan the courage to even step into the open sea.
“Our aggressive posture and prompt action during Operation Sindoor did not allow the Pakistan Navy to leave its ports. The presence of the Carrier Battle Group was a clear warning to them,” he told ANI. Not only this, the Navy Chief also reiterated that Operation Sindoor has not ended yet, this operation is still going on and it is being continuously monitored.
What is career battle group?
Carrier Battle Group (CBG) is the largest and most powerful operational unit (battle fleet) of any navy. It is an organized group of warships, submarines and supply ships operating with an aircraft carrier.
Main Role:
, Air Dominance: To provide air defense and attack capability at sea and in coastal areas through fighter jets and helicopters onboard the aircraft carrier.
, Defense Armor: The group’s cruisers and destroyers protect the aircraft carrier from anti-missile and anti-submarine attacks.
What is its benefit?
CBGs can be rapidly deployed to any threat area, capable of projecting sustained and overwhelming military power for long periods of time without any external support. The Indian Navy has carriers like INS Vikramaditya and the indigenous INS Vikrant, which play a decisive role in the country’s maritime security and operations like ‘Operation Vermillion’.
Pakistan’s maritime trade stalled
Admiral Tripathi said that after the action of Indian security forces, Pakistan had to face a new kind of economic pressure. Many international merchant ships started avoiding going towards Pakistan ports. This caused a double blow to Pakistan-
1. Movement of cargo ships decreased,
2. Insurance rates increased manifold, making maritime trade more expensive.
This situation has become a long-term economic challenge for Pakistan.
Operation Sindoor: Response to Pahalgam attack
On the night of 7 May, Indian security forces entered inside the border of Pakistan and destroyed a large structure of terrorists. This action was taken in response to the Pahalgam terrorist attack of 22 April. In the operation, more than 100 terrorists were eliminated and many launching pads and bases were blown up. After this, Pakistan tried to increase the tension on the borders but the precise counter strategy of the Indian Army and Navy immediately brought the situation under control. On May 10, a ceasefire understanding was reached between the two countries.
“The best example of civil-military fusion”
Defense Minister Rajnath Singh also praised Operation Sindoor recently and said that it is an example of unprecedented coordination between military and administrative machinery. He told how administrative officials across the country shared information in time, conducted drills and ensured that the common people did not fall prey to any rumour. Rajnath Singh said, “Our forces destroyed the terror infrastructure present in Pakistan and PoK without worsening the situation. But the behavior of the neighboring country did not allow the situation to become normal.”
