Gurgaon: On Thursday, not only Indigo passengers were stranded at airports across the country, the condition of those traveling on the Gurgaon-Delhi Expressway was also not good. In fact, due to weddings being held in hotels and farmhouses near the expressway, the main road had become a kind of parking lot. It took nearly two hours for commuters to travel just 2 km from Ambience Mall-Sirhaul border to Rajokri in Delhi, which was similar to air passengers stranded in the airport terminal.
What was the reason for the jam?
The traffic jam started around midnight when vehicles of wedding guests near a famous star hotel came onto the service road and blocked the main road. The special thing was that not a single traffic policeman was visible on either side of Gurgaon or Delhi, due to which the anger among the people stuck in the jam increased. People stuck in the jam also called the traffic helpline, but it proved useless.
A commuter said- I left my office in Udyog Vihar at 9.45 pm and as soon as I boarded the expressway, I saw heavy traffic on the Shankar Chowk flyover as well as on the surface road. Although traffic jams are nothing new in the city, it was strange to have such a long traffic jam at that time.
Traffic kept crawling on the expressway even on Friday
stop work at peak hours
ACP (Traffic, Highway) Satyapal Yadav in Gurgaon said – The main reason for the jam on Friday was due to some ongoing work of NHAI on the Delhi side of the expressway. We received several calls from passengers, after which our senior officers started clearing the traffic. Moreover, we also immediately contacted Dwarka Traffic Inspector and NHAI officials and requested them not to continue the work during peak traffic hours.
