DehradunTwo different colors of weather are being seen in Uttarakhand, While on one hand the plains are in the grip of dense fog and severe cold, on the other hand snowfall has knocked in the higher Himalayan regions, Meteorological Centre, Dehradun on Monday issued a yellow alert regarding dense fog for two plain districts of the state and advised to exercise caution, There is a possibility of rain and snowfall in four districts,
Zero visibility in the plains and impact on traffic
Plain areas like Dehradun, Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Roorkee and Rishikesh have been wrapped in a blanket of dense fog for the last several days. Due to fog, visibility has reduced to less than 50 meters, which has adversely affected rail and air services. Many trains are running late and there is difficulty in operating flights at Jolly Grant Airport.
A huge drop in temperature up to 9 degrees Celsius was recorded
Last Saturday, the temperature in Dehradun had reached lower than Mussoorie and Mukteshwar. A huge drop of 9 degrees Celsius was recorded in the maximum temperature in the plain areas of the state. A ‘cold day’ like situation is prevailing in Pantnagar and Dehradun, due to which people are forced to shiver throughout the day.
Snowfall and sunshine game in the mountains
Unlike the plains of the state, the weather in the lower hilly areas remains pleasant with sunny days. However, the situation is different in the higher Himalayan regions. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of light to moderate snowfall in areas with a height of more than 3500 meters (like the peaks of Uttarkashi, Chamoli, and Pithoragarh). In comparison to other hilly states of North India, this time the weather in the central hilly areas of Uttarakhand has remained mainly dry.
Why did the weather change?
According to meteorologists, the post-monsoon season has been affected due to the comparative inactivity of western disturbances this year. Apart from this, increasing pollution is also being considered as one of the main reasons for reducing visibility by converting fog into ‘smog’. This trend of dry cold and cold winds is expected to continue for the next few days. The administration has advised drivers to drive carefully during fog and the elderly and children to avoid cold.
Alert regarding snowfall and fog even today
According to the information received from the Meteorological Department, today there is a possibility of very light rain and snowfall at some places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts of the state. Snowfall is likely to occur in the mountainous areas of the state with altitudes above 3500 meters. The weather is likely to remain dry in the remaining districts of the state. Dense fog is expected at some places in Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar.
If we talk about the weather of Dehradun
The sky will be mainly clear to partly cloudy. There is a possibility of fog in the capital in the morning. The maximum temperature here is expected to be around 23°C and the minimum temperature will be around 9°C.
