Fog wreaks havoc in the plains
When the people of Dehradun woke up on Saturday morning, the city was wrapped in a thick blanket of fog. Due to low visibility, the speed of vehicles stopped on the roads. In many areas of the capital, dew drops were seen freezing in the morning, due to which the chill has increased further. According to the Meteorological Department, the effect of fog is likely to continue in the morning and night for the coming few days.
Drizzle and falling mercury in the mountains
The weather has changed not only in the plains of Uttarakhand but also in the hilly districts of the state. There was intermittent light drizzle in high altitude areas like Chamoli, Uttarkashi and Pithoragarh on Saturday. Due to this drizzle, there are chances of snowfall on the upper peaks. Due to cold winds, the maximum and minimum temperatures have dropped by 3°C to 5°C. The change in weather has affected the life of the people. This sudden increase in cold has greatly affected the life of the common people. One has to face silence in the markets on Saturday morning. As the evening approaches, the crowd in the markets starts reducing and people are taking the help of bonfires. At the same time, due to fog, the operation of bus services and trains connecting the mountains and plains has also been affected. Doctors have advised the elderly and children to avoid this changing cold and make proper use of warm clothes. Due to the active western disturbance in Uttarakhand from December 20, the weather has started becoming cold. According to the Meteorological Center, due to the active western disturbance, light snowfall in the upper areas of Uttarakhand and cold wave may increase in the plains. There is a possibility of cloudy sky and further drop in minimum temperature in many parts of the state in the next 48 hours. Heavy drops of dew fell in the plains and Terai parts of Dehradun on Saturday. The humidity level in the air has reached 90-100%, due to which wet roads and chill in the morning have increased the problems of two-wheeler drivers.
Chance of rain and snowfall today
According to the weather forecast, today there is a possibility of light rain and snowfall at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Chamoli, Rudraprayag and Pithoragarh districts of the state. There is a possibility of snowfall in the areas of the state having a height of about 3500 meters and above. The weather is likely to remain dry in the remaining districts of the state. On Sunday i.e. today, there is a possibility of dense fog in some places in the plain areas of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar, Nainital, Champawat, Pauri and Dehradun districts of the state. According to meteorologists, today the sky of Dehradun will be mainly clear to partly cloudy. There is a possibility of shallow to moderate fog in some areas of the plain districts and a cold day. Today the maximum temperature of Dehradun is likely to be around 16°C and the minimum temperature is likely to be around 9°C.
Dehradun’s maximum temperature
According to the Meteorological Department, the maximum temperature of Dehradun was recorded at 12.3 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 7.3 degrees Celsius yesterday. Whereas the maximum temperature of Pantnagar was 14.5 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 11.5 degrees Celsius. The maximum temperature of Mukteshwar was 20.1 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 6.5 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature of New Tehri was recorded at 18.6 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature was 6.6 degrees Celsius.
