The weather patterns are going to change in many parts of the country today. According to the latest weather update released by India Meteorological Department (IMD), the effect of severe cold and dense fog will be seen in North India. A warning of rain and strong winds has been issued in the coastal areas of South India. The Meteorological Department has made it clear that due to the presence of active cyclonic circulation in the upper air, western disturbance and jet stream, different types of weather activities will be seen in different areas.
According to IMD, the cyclonic circulation in the upper air at a height of 1.5 kilometers still persists in eastern Bangladesh and surrounding areas, which may affect the weather in North-East India. At the same time, the trough of western disturbance formed with westerly winds in the central troposphere is active over North India at a height of about 5.8 kilometers. Apart from this, a trough of easterly winds is also formed over the south-western Bay of Bengal, which extends to a height of 1.5 kilometers. Along with all these systems, westerly wind is also active at a height of about 12.6 kilometers on the plains of North India, the speed of which is said to be up to 110 knots. This is the reason why the effect of cold and fog is continuously increasing in North India.
Where is rain expected?
According to the forecast of the Meteorological Department, there may be light to moderate rain in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal on December 10. There may be rain with thunder in some areas and there is a possibility of heavy rain at some places. Strong winds with a speed of 35 to 45 kilometers per hour, gusting to 55 kilometers per hour, may occur over south-western parts of the Bay of Bengal, along the coasts of Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka, along with the Gulf of Mannar and Comorin area. Due to this, there is a possibility of increased disturbance in the marine areas and fishermen have been advised to remain alert.
In the plains of north-west India, a drop of about 2 degrees Celsius may be recorded in the minimum temperature during the next three days, while the temperature is likely to rise by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius in the following four days. At present, there will be no major change in the minimum temperature in Central India for the next three days, but after that the temperature may increase by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius. Whereas in Maharashtra, the minimum temperature is expected to drop gradually by 2 to 3 degrees Celsius for the next four days.

Dense fog conditions may persist in Odisha on 10 and 11 December, in eastern Uttar Pradesh between 10 and 13 December and in Assam and Manipur from 10 to 14 December. Apart from this, there is a possibility of low visibility in Nagaland, Mizoram, Tripura, Assam and Meghalaya in the morning, due to which road and rail traffic may be affected.
IMD has also indicated that a new weak western disturbance may affect the western Himalayan region from December 13, due to which the weather may change again in the hilly states and there may be a possibility of rain or snowfall in the higher reaches.
