Shahjahanpur News: An incident that took place in Bamrauli village on 25 December 1924, which was recorded by the British as robbery, later became the basis for the hanging of the great revolutionary Thakur Roshan Singh. Although Roshan Singh was not involved in the Kakori Rail Action, the British government opened the old file of the Bamrauli incident and implicated him in the charge of conspiracy murder. This case exposes the bitter truth of the hypocrisy of the British justice system.
Shahjahanpur : An incident that took place in Bamrauli village of Pilibhit on the night of 25 December 1924 proved to be a decisive turning point in the history of the Indian freedom struggle. What the police recorded as ‘robbery’ was actually a ‘money action’ by the revolutionaries of the Hindustan Republican Association (HRA). During this action taken to strengthen the organization and purchase weapons, a person named Mohanlal died due to bullet injury due to an accident. This was the incident which later became the noose to hang the great revolutionary Thakur Roshan Singh. History is witness to the fact that despite not being involved in the Kakori Rail Action, the British government opened the old file of this Bamrauli incident and implicated Roshan Singh in a conspiracy and sentenced him to death.
Historian Dr. Vikas Khurana considers the Bamrauli incident not as an ordinary crime but a symbol of the hypocrisy of the English justice system. He says that the British government was afraid of Thakur Roshan Singh’s personality and his marksmanship. Dr Khurana said that the firing in Bamrauli action was an accident, not a murder, but the British needed an excuse to remove Roshan Singh from the way. When the hearing of Kakori Rail Action started, the police deliberately linked the Bamrauli incident with the Kakori conspiracy. Roshan Singh was charged with murder for this Bamrauli incident, while the other associates were charged with treason. This was not justice, but a pre-planned ‘judicial murder’.
What is the background of Bamrauli incident?
Dr. Khurana says that it is very important to understand the background of the Bamrauli incident and its far-reaching consequences. When the revolutionaries under the leadership of Ram Prasad Bismil reached the house of a rich moneylender Baldev Prasad of Bamrauli to collect money, their intention was not to kill anyone. That night, the bullet fired in the darkness and chaos not only took the life of a villager, but also gave the British an infallible weapon.
Bamrauli incident was made the basis
When arrests were made after the Kakori incident, C.I.D. Very cleverly linked the presence of Roshan Singh with the Bamrauli incident. In Judge Hamilton’s court, on the basis of this incident, it was argued that Roshan Singh was a ‘dangerous criminal’, as a result of which he was hanged in Malacca Jail, Allahabad on 19 December 1927, even though he was not even a part of the Kakori Train Action.
