There is such a place in the world, the moment you see it you will feel as if you have come to an alien country. Many volcanoes had erupted at this place continuously for three months. After this the map of the place changed.
There is a place on the island of La Palma located in the Canary Islands of Spain, which will remind you of alien movies. Huge fields of black lava, broken volcanic cones, ash covered land and buried buildings in between, all this is the result of the terrible volcanic eruption of 2021 which continued continuously for 85 days. The name of this volcano is Tajogite, which is built on the Cumbre Viekha Ridge. The Charco Verde area was most affected by this eruption, where lava flowed to the sea and created new land.
This eruption, which started on September 19, 2021, was the longest and most destructive in the history of La Palma. First there were small earthquakes, then suddenly a volcanic eruption occurred in the Cabeza de Vaca area. Many vents opened and fountains of lava spewed out and fell far and wide. The cloud of ash started touching the sky. It stopped after 85 days i.e. on 13th December. During this period, more than 12 square kilometers of area was covered with lava. Due to this, more than 3000 buildings were destroyed. Banana plantations (which form a large part of the island’s economy) were burned to the ground. After the destruction, this place turned into an alien country.
location map changed
Lava had swallowed everything in Charco Verde and surrounding areas. Thousands of people became homeless but the good thing is that due to early warning no one lost their lives. The lava was so hot that the temperature here reached 1140 degrees. When this lava fell into the sea, a new delta was formed. About 48 hectares of new land took birth. But it was not pretty at that time. The air was spoiled by smoke, poisonous gas and ash. Airports were closed and all flights were cancelled.
Now a tourist spot
Now in 2025 this area has become an attraction for tourists. Guided tours allow people to see Tajogite up close. Walking on black lava, seeing strange shaped stones, it all feels like an alien planet. In some places, plants have started growing again, nature is returning. But many houses are still buried in ashes. The government has spent millions of euros for reconstruction. Scientists say that the volcanoes on La Palma are active because it is on a hotspot. The last major eruption occurred in 1971. Tajogite changed the map of the island where new hills and new land were formed. Its pictures are going viral on social media, seeing which people have started calling it an alien planet.
