He alleged that Venugopal is weakening Congress by giving wrong advice to Rahul Gandhi. On the other hand, Venugopal had claimed that the Left government is working as per BJP. The controversy has sparked political debate from south to north.
This statement has created discussion starting from South India to the political circles of North India. CPI(M) alleges that K.C. Venugopal is weakening Congress from within. He is even working as a strategic weapon of BJP. On the other hand, Venugopal had already alleged that the Left government of Kerala is following the BJP government at the Center in many matters. This politics of accusation and counter-accusation has started a new war in the relations between the two national parties.
What are Venugopal’s allegations?
KC while talking to media in Delhi. Venugopal had claimed that the Left government of Kerala has adopted many decisions of the Center without opposition. Especially mentioning the Labor Code and PM SHRI Project, he said that the CPM government is following the line of BJP. A few hours later, Kerala Minister V Shivankutty hit back and called Venugopal a Trojan horse of BJP. He said that instead of strengthening the Congress, Venugopal is destroying it from within.
Shivankutty’s allegations: wrong advice, wrong strategy, wrong intentions
- Venugopal is weakening the party by giving wrong advice to Rahul Gandhi.
- Benefited BJP by leaving Rajya Sabha seat.
- In the states where Congress is fighting, Venugopal’s strategy weakens the party.
- His political interference in Kerala is damaging the grassroots structure of the party.
Shivankutty alleged that Venugopal continuously gives wrong advice to Rahul Gandhi and works to weaken the Congress in election states. He even said that Venugopal had deliberately given up the Rajya Sabha ticket so that BJP could easily get majority in the upper house. The CPM leader said that all this shows that Venugopal is running a strategy from within the Congress to harm it.

PM SHRI controversy and clash over labor code
The political conflict started when Venugopal alleged that the Left government tried to implement the Labor Code. Whereas their allied trade unions were opposing it. He also said that signing the MOU on PM SHRI project was a very condemnable step. Later the CPM led government postponed the Centre’s plan. But the controversy did not stop here. According to the documents published in the media, the draft regulations related to the Labor Code were issued in 2021 itself. After this Shivankutty had to give an explanation.
Shivankutty’s most controversial statement was the one in which he said that while central agencies can take action against Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, Congress organization general secretary K.C. Why is there no investigation on Venugopal? According to him this is a sign of internal agreement. The minister claims that Venugopal’s next goal is to strengthen the BJP in Kerala and this should signal to the Congress that an invisible threat exists within the party.
Difficulties of Kerala’s Left government and increasing political gap
Amidst this entire controversy, the Left government itself came under pressure. After the draft regulations of the Labor Code came out, it had to go on the backfoot. CPM is calling it a misunderstanding. But the opposition is seeing this as ‘double politics’ of the Left. It is clear from the deteriorating relationship between Congress and CPM that the prospects of alliance in South Indian politics are weakening and after 2024 this gap may deepen further.
