After the murder of Lake Padiyami in Malkangiri, the tribal mob set fire to 150 houses in MV-26, a colony of Bangladeshi origin. Considering the circumstances, curfew had to be imposed in the area and internet service was stopped.
Bhubaneswar. Terrible violence broke out in Malkangiri district of Odisha. The angry tribal mob set fire to MV-26, an entire colony of people of Bangladeshi origin. About 150 houses were burnt to ashes. Many people were badly beaten and injured. This incident happened regarding the murder of a woman in the area, due to which angry people set her on fire. The administration is appealing for peace from both sides.
According to the information, 51 year old tribal woman Lek Padiyami of Rakhalguda village was missing since December 3. On December 4, his decapitated body was found on the banks of Dudametta river. The tribals suspected that some people from the Bangladeshi settlement had murdered him due to a land dispute. In this anger, hundreds of tribals entered the settlement with weapons and burnt everything in no time.
Internet shut down for 24 hours
There was already a possibility of an attack, so overnight about a thousand people of Bangladeshi origin left the colony and fled. The administration immediately imposed curfew and shut down the internet for 24 hours from 6 pm onwards. Additional police and para military forces have been sent. Superintendent of Police Vinod Patil said that two suspects of the murder have been detained. He has appealed to the people to maintain peace. Area DGP YB Khurania himself reached the spot so that the Maoists were not allowed to take advantage of the situation.
The matter reached the assembly
The matter echoed till the Assembly. Biju Janata Dal MLA Pratap Keshari Deb accused the BJP government of failing to resolve the old land dispute. In response, BJP MLA Tankdhar Tripathi said that compared to the previous BJD government, the current Mohan Charan Majhi government has taken immediate action.

District Collector Somesh Upadhyay said that a meeting of the peace committee of people of both the communities has been called at 10:30 am on Tuesday. It is noteworthy that by the 1970s, more than two lakh Bengali speaking families who had come from Bangladesh had settled in 214 villages of Malkangiri and had taken Indian citizenship. Now this old tension turns into violence at any time. The administration is appealing for peace from both sides.
