Uttarakhand Weather: Winter has intensified its effect in Uttarakhand. The temperature has gone below zero in the hilly areas, while in the plain districts, dense fog and increasing pollution are increasing the problems of the people. Dehradun. One fortnight of December has passed and all the districts from the plains to the hilly districts of Uttarakhand are in the grip of cold weather. The temperature has reached below zero in the hilly districts of the state, especially Chamoli and Rudraprayag. Common people are troubled in the mountains due to cold weather, while in the plain districts, drivers are facing difficulty in driving in the morning and evening due to fog. Due to this, road accidents have also started happening. Although in the afternoon the temperature remains normal in the plains like Dehradun, it does not feel very cold.
Hemkund Sahib’s temperature reaches minus 10°C
The lake of Hemkund Sahib, the holy pilgrimage site of the Sikhs located in Chamoli district, has completely frozen. The night temperature here is reaching -10°C. Not only this, the water of rivers and streams in high altitude areas has also turned into ice. The rivulets (small drains) and waterfalls flowing in the high Himalayan areas of Chamoli have turned into ice due to the severe cold. Even after half the month of December has passed, there has been no good snowfall this year, due to which the effect of ‘dry cold’ has increased. At present, snowfall is still awaited in Kedarnath Dham.
‘Double attack’ of fog and pollution in the plains
The situation is a bit challenging not only in the hill districts of Uttarakhand but also in the plain areas. An alert has been issued regarding dense fog in the morning and night in the plains of Haridwar, Udham Singh Nagar and Dehradun. The Meteorological Department has issued a forecast for a week. According to which, the weather will remain dry in Uttarakhand for a week. Whereas after a week the weather pattern will change due to western disturbance in the state. It has been said that there are indications of a weak western disturbance becoming active in the next 24 to 48 hours, which may cause light snowfall and rain in areas at altitudes above 3500 meters.
In the next 4-5 days, the minimum temperature may drop further by 2-3 degrees, due to which the nights will become colder. The weather is likely to remain mainly dry in most of the districts till December 20. Visibility may be reduced due to fog, so travelers are advised to drive carefully on mountain and plain highways.
