Karnataka: There was again a dispute regarding hijab between Hindu and Muslim students at CJ Bellar Government First Grade College in Haveri, Karnataka. Some Hindu boys arrived wearing saffron shawls and said that there should be equal atmosphere for everyone in the class.
Karnataka The atmosphere once again became tense regarding Hijab on Tuesday at CJ Bellard Government First Grade College in Haveri district. Some Hindu boys reached college wearing saffron shawls. He said that some Muslim girls come to college wearing hijab and he was protesting against this very thing.
Boys say- “We had told the principal earlier also”
The protesting Hindu students claimed that they had raised this issue before the college principal also. He believes that there should be the same environment for all students in the class. They say that allowing hijab is creating a situation of “separate identity”, which is not acceptable to other students.
Some students said that if Muslim girls can wear hijab, then they also have the right to wear saffron shawls. He said that both should get equal rules.
What did the girls wearing hijab say?
Muslim girls who come to study wearing hijab say that hijab is a part of their religious tradition and personal identity. She says that she does not want to fight with anyone, she just wants to study in her own way.
A student said that it is her right to study in college and wearing a hijab should not be a hindrance to her studies.
College administration talked to both sides
The college administration immediately became active after the incident. The principal appealed to keep the atmosphere calm by talking to both Hindu and Muslim parties. The administration said that the matter will be resolved on the basis of government rules and college policy. It was also said by the college that no student will be allowed to create tension in the campus.
