The danger of snakes increases during the rainy season. For this reason, people in Mithilanchal tie the root of Sarpagandha on their wrist for four months. This tradition is still followed in many villages. It is believed that by tying the root of Sarpagandha, there is no fear of snake bite and the danger to life is averted. According to Dr. Kunal Kumar Jha, Head of Astrology Department of KSD Sanskrit University, snakes come out of their holes due to rain in Chaturmas. On the Sunday of Ashadh Shukla Paksha, men tie this root on their right hand and women on their left hand.
