Bitter Gourd Seeds: Bitter gourd is a very beneficial crop. Now, along with the cultivation of bitter gourd, farmers are also producing improved varieties of seeds. Local 18 team talked to farmer Samlu Kashyap, who is preparing new seeds by crossing bitter gourd. Samlu Kashyap told, he has planted female and male bitter gourd of Verinar variety. He has done this farming in 30 decimals. The entire farming has been done in shade net. When a male flower is crossed with a female flower, a new fruit is formed. The company buys this new seed, so there is no problem in selling it. The company itself sells this seed in the market in the name of new variety.

The farmer further said, the rates of seeds of all varieties of bitter gourd are different. The rate of some seeds is Rs 2 thousand and some is Rs 3 thousand per kg. It is estimated that about 70 to 80 kg of seeds will be produced in 30 decimals, which can yield an income of Rs 1.50 lakh to Rs 2 lakh.

Cow dung manure has been added as basal dose in bitter gourd seed production. 19:19:19, 16:8:24, 12:61:0 and calcium are given through drip. Diseases like downy and powdery occur in this crop. Medicines like Radomil Gold are available for Downy. After crossing, a rope is tied to the flower, so that the crossed flower can be identified.
This is how crossing happens
For crossing, the pollen of the male flower is touched inside the female flower and then tied with a thread. When the fruit is ripe, it is plucked. The fruit becomes ripe for plucking in about 25 days. Every variety has a number, which is recognized by the company people. Light irrigation should be done after crossing and it is always better to do crossing in the morning.
