Korba Engineer Kheermohan Nayak: Lakhs of people died due to lack of oxygen during the Corona period, and the polluted air in Delhi‑NCR made even breathing difficult. This unprecedented crisis forced the general public to reconsider the importance of oxygen, nature and trees. One such conscious citizen, Khirmohan Nayak, has taken interesting steps in this direction and has dedicated his life to the protection of trees and plants.
From engineer to green activist
Kheermohan Nayak, resident of Niharika area of Korba, has a degree in Electrical Engineering from Raigarh Polytechnic and is working as an engineer in Bharat Aluminum Company (BALCO). After spending 8 hours a day in his daily job, his hobby and now his mission has become to plant trees and take care of them.
Water every tree by walking everywhere
The hero is often seen on the street corners of Korba. Water bucket in hand. Kheer Mohan tells that I wake up early and go in my car to the places where I have planted trees and water them again. He believes that this work is not just about planting trees, but also about ensuring respiratory protection for future generations.
Kheer Mohan did not give the exact figures of how many trees he has planted so far, but he says that most of the plants are trees (peepal). The Corona epidemic made us realize the importance of oxygen. Since then, environmental awareness has increased among people and I want to bring this awareness to the ground.
Kheermohan has appealed to the local people that fences can be erected to protect the plants from cattle, but there is no net to protect them from humans. Every person has to understand the importance of trees and protect them, only then we will live a healthy life.
