Winter, meteorologically, has started on a very wet note, with rain across much of the UK.
That trend is likely to continue through most of Monday and become particularly intense at times.
Rainfall totals will rise considerably, but with heavily saturated terrain there are numerous Met Office yellow warnings in place.
A more severe Met Office amber warning is in place for South Wales until 23:59 GMT.
Between 20 and 40 mm (0.8 and 1.6 in) of rain is expected to fall widely here, with some southwest-facing hills receiving around 120 mm (4.7 in).
This would mean that a month’s worth of rain would fall in a single day.
Extensive flooding is possible, along with disruptions to the road and rail network, loss of power and potentially isolated communities.
The Met Office has also warned that fast-flowing water or deep flooding is possible and could be life-threatening.
