Rishikesh: Winter season brings comfort, warmth and pleasant feelings. Quilts, heaters, hot tea and moments spent with family make this season special. Along with this, there are also some carelessness which seem small but can prove to be fatal. In winter, it is equally important to take care of health as well as safety. Especially when it comes to keeping the room warm, heating the heater or burning wood and choosing clothes while sleeping. If even a slight mistake is made in these three things, it can have a direct impact on your health and life.
Dr. Rajkumar (Ayush) told Local 18 that the use of heaters increases significantly in winter. To escape the cold, people close their rooms and turn on the heater. It is very dangerous to do this. When the room is closed, the flow of air stops. In such a situation, poisonous gases like carbon monoxide emitted from gas heaters or electric heaters accumulate inside the room. These gases have no smell, so it is not even known when it will prove fatal. This causes conditions like headache, confusion, dizziness, respiratory arrest and unconsciousness. In many cases this condition can directly result in death. Therefore, while running the heater, always keep the window of the room slightly open so that fresh air keeps coming in and poisonous gases keep coming out.
This can also be fatal
In cold areas, people still use wood, coal or fireplace to keep the room warm. Keep in mind that if there is a fire burning in the room and the doors or windows of the room are completely closed, then it can also be equally dangerous. Burning of wood and coal produces poisonous gas like carbon monoxide which is odorless and causes lack of oxygen in the body.
Due to the effect of this gas, a sleep-like nap gradually begins. The person does not even realize that he is not going into sleep but into unconsciousness. This situation is a great threat to life. Therefore, if you want to keep the room warm by lighting a fire, then make it a habit to keep the window or door slightly open so that there is proper circulation of air.
Sleeping like this can spoil the body temperature
To avoid cold, people sleep at night wearing very heavy, thick and multi-layered clothes, but this can also be a big mistake. The body temperature itself is controlled while sleeping at night. But, if you sleep in clothes that are too warm, the body temperature will start becoming unbalanced. This can cause restlessness in sleep, sweating, difficulty in breathing and even suffocation. This risk is especially high in children and the elderly. Therefore, wear light and comfortable warm clothes while sleeping and use a warm quilt or blanket. This will keep the body temperature balanced and sleep will also be good.
