Two American soldiers and an American civilian interpreter were killed in Syria in an ambush by a lone Islamic State gunman, the US military said.
Three other service members were wounded in the attack, during which the gunman was “engaged and killed.”
The identities of those killed are being withheld for 24 hours until their families are informed.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said, “Let it be known: If you attack Americans, anywhere in the world you will spend the rest of your short, anxious life knowing that the United States will hunt you down, find you, and kill you without mercy.”
The ambush occurred in Palmyra, located in the center of the country, according to Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell.
