New Delhi. If you have ever traveled in Delhi, Jaipur, Mumbai, Pune or on any major highway, then the queue at the toll plaza must have made you cry some day or the other. The horns of the vehicles keep ringing in the ears. But now this entire scene is going to become like an old memory, because the government is shifting the entire highway network of the country to a technology in which there will be no need to even brake the vehicle to pay toll.
The Central Government has finalized the Multi Lane Free Flow System i.e. MLFF and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has announced that in the coming one year, barriers will be removed from about 1100 toll plazas of the country. Meaning, where till date people used to burn their anger, time and fuel on toll, the same toll will now be cleared automatically in a second. Cameras will read the number plate, money will be deducted from Fastag and your vehicle will pass as if there was never a toll there.
65 lakh hours will be saved every day
Just hearing the amount of time that will be saved in the country after the implementation of MLFF can bring joy to the eyes of common citizens suffering from traffic. Currently it takes 8 to 12 minutes for a vehicle to cross the toll and during festivals this time can stretch to infinity in any direction. But in the new system the train will pass directly and 65 lakh hours of time will be saved every day in the entire country. This time is so much that if you want, you can search the entire country and eliminate the traffic problem.
With the end of the jam, there will be a big jump in speed. Usually, near the toll, the speed of vehicles drops to 20 to 30 kilometers per hour, but after MLFF, vehicles will be able to move at a steady speed of 70 to 80 kilometers per hour. This difference will be visible not only in comfort but also in the fuel pocket. The petrol which used to evaporate while standing at the toll will now be converted into savings and according to the government, 60 million tonnes of CO2 emissions will also be reduced annually.
Life of truck and logistics people becomes easy
If anyone cries the most over toll, it is the truck driver. A truck traveling a long distance crosses 6 to 8 tolls and if it stops for even 10 minutes at each toll, an hour flies by. Now look at the condition of fleet companies. If they have 50 to 100 trucks, there will be savings of 50 to 150 hours daily. This savings means less fuel, less expenses, more deliveries and more profits. This is the change that will help in reducing India’s logistics cost from 14 percent to 8 percent of GDP.
The biggest interesting part is that till now, at many places, truckers were stopped unnecessarily at toll, papers were checked, arguments took place and sometimes complaints of extortion were also received. MLFF will automate this entire system. No people, no arguments, no interruptions. The camera will see, the system will know and the car will go straight. The whole game is to bring real flow on the highway.
The toll culture of the entire country will change
It is often seen that there are fights, anger, arguments and attempts to break rules at toll. Actual figures show that 80 percent of the vehicles plying on the road are private and most of them follow the rules. But only 2 to 3 percent people give wrong information on toll or try to avoid it through fake means. Now the government will collect penalty on them through compound interest model and the rest of the system will remain clean and peaceful.
Highway experience will be like butter
After the arrival of MLFF, shockwave traffic on the highways, sudden brakes and kilometer long queues during festivals will disappear. Whether it is night or day, you will pass the toll without stopping and the journey will feel much smoother than before. There will definitely be some adjustment in the first few months, but its impact will be visible on travel time, fuel expense and quality of travel.
