New Delhi. The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has taken action against fake news running on YouTube channels. In fact, busted channels are part of the fake news economy. Channels use fake, clickbait and sensationalized thumbnails and images of television news anchors of channels to mislead. PIB has told that the central government has tightened the reins on some YouTube channels for releasing fake news. These YouTube channels use photos of TV anchors, clickbait and sensationalized thumbnails to mislead people. In December last year, the central government had asked to ban 3 YouTube channels for spreading fake news.

The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting told that action has been taken on fake news running on YouTube channels for some time. Even before this, the government had taken action on YouTube channels in December. Minister Anurag Thakur had told in the Rajya Sabha that along with 104 YouTube channels spreading confusion and fear, action has been taken on 5 Twitter accounts and 6 websites under the IT Act. In response to supplementary questions, Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur had said that action has been taken against 45 videos, 4 accounts and 2 posts of Facebook, 3 and 5 Twitter accounts of Instagram.
