The severe cold in Patna has already alerted the zoo administration. As soon as the temperature drops, special arrangements have been started for animals and birds in Patna Zoo. The windows of the night house have been covered with straw and thick curtains, so that the cold air cannot reach the animals.
Most attention is being given to big carnivorous creatures like lion and tiger. Special heaters have been installed in their enclosures. Both of them are seen resting in the sun during the day, but in the cold of the night the heater is their main source of warmth. To keep the body temperature balanced in winter, egg is also included in their diet.

Special care is also being taken in the care of chimpanzees and monkeys. The zoo administration is giving them Chyawanprash and Amla Murabba, so that their immunity remains intact. In this picture the tiger is resting in front of the heater.
At the same time, a warm spot has been prepared by spreading thick straw in the field for animals living in open areas like deer and giraffe. To protect the small cubs from the cold, the caretakers cover them with warm sacks. Things like banana are being given in food.
Changes have also been made in the arrangements of drinking and bathing water for the animals. Hot water has been supplied in the zoo. Lukewarm water is being given to drink. A small amount of salt is also being added to it, so that the animals do not face any problem in the cold.
To protect the bird cages from cold, clothes have been placed on the edges. A small night house has been made in each cage from mud and straw, in which they can rest throughout the night. Gram and peanuts along with fruits have been included in their diet, while the peacocks are being given eggs for extra energy.
To protect the snakes from cold, high voltage bulbs have been installed in their cages. Apart from this, blankets have also been kept in the cage, on which the snakes are seen wrapping themselves and taking warmth. The zoo administration says that the health of all the animals is a priority during the winter season and keeping this in mind, special arrangements have been made in every section.
