Room Heater Buying Tips: As winter approaches, the demand for room heaters increases rapidly. People use heaters day and night to get relief from cold, but a little carelessness or choosing the wrong heater can prove fatal. Incidents like arson, electrocution and suffocation occur every year. Many cases of unconsciousness and accidents due to room heater have also been reported in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh. Experts say that most of the incidents occur due to room heaters of poor quality or without safety features. In such a situation, if you are going to buy a new room heater, then pay special attention not only to the price or design, but also to the safety and technical features.
That’s why the right heater is important
Khargone’s experienced electrician Nayan Jain explains that the room heater draws the air from the room and heats it through a coil and then releases it outside. In this process, the amount of oxygen may reduce and running the heater in a closed room for a long time increases the risk of harmful gases. This is why a heater with the right features and its safe use is very important.
1. Auto Cut and Overheat Protection Feature
While buying a room heater, first of all look for the auto cut feature. This feature automatically switches off the heater when it gets too hot. This reduces the risk of fire and wire melting to a great extent. In the absence of overheat protection, the heater continues to heat up, which can cause a major accident.
2. Tip-over safety switch
If there are children or pets in the house, then this feature is very important. Due to the tip-over switch, the heater automatically switches off as soon as it falls. Many times, clothes or papers kept nearby get burnt due to the heater turning on, due to which there is a risk of fire.
3. Thermostat Control System
Good room heaters have thermostat controls, so you can set the temperature according to the room. As soon as the room heats up to the set temperature, the heater automatically switches off or goes into slow mode. This not only increases security but also saves electricity.
4. True Power and Energy Efficiency
The wattage of the heater should be according to the size of the room. A heater with high power in a small room will not only consume more electricity but will also increase the risk of lack of oxygen. Energy efficient heaters prove to be safe and economical in the long run.
5. Strong body and quality wiring
The body of the room heater should be of heat resistant material. Also check ISI mark and strong wiring. Cheap plastic body and weak wires can cause over current and short circuit.
Take these precautions while running room heater
1. Do not run the heater by closing the entire room, keep a window open for ventilation.
2. Keep the heater away from cloth, paper or wood and always on tiles or solid surface.
3. Keep the heater away from children and pets.
4. Do not run the heater all night, turn it off when the room gets hot.
5. Use old or rod heaters with caution and check from time to time.
